Work in Progress! February 2016

  A Walk Around Worcestershire

Laura and I are making a circuit of Worcestershire on foot using a network of footpaths. Recently we walked over Worcestershire Beacon reaching the car park at the foot of Herefordshire Beacon (British Camp). That is "foreign parts" in Herefordshire so next time we will walk to Upton on Severn.

This was our view on the top of Worcestershire Beacon, the highest point of the county, on Monday 17th November!

A Project with St Michael Stourport and All Saints Wilden

All Saints, Wilden is a remarkable building. It is the only church in England to possess a complete set of windows designed by by the Pre-Raphaelite artist, Edward Burne-Jones http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Burne-Jones  and made in the factory of William Morris http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Morris. You can find out a but more about it at http://www.worcestershireopenchurches.info/visit-worcestershire/wilden/

The building is remarkable, but like many beautiful historic churches its care lies in the hands of a small group of dedicated but weary volunteers. How do they care for a national treasure and still have energy to be a community of Good News? This is the task that we are working on together.I would think it to be impossible but for one thing and that is the quality of the people I have met in that community. That, as I see it, is the sign that the life of God is real amongst them. Every time I have worked with this congregation I have seen them connect with the community around them in a particularly beautiful way.

How will this community find a way to renew their delight and find strength in their weariness? How will they find a way to care for the building of which they are stewards? How will they find a way to pay for it all? If you have any thoughts on this I would love to hear from you.

Confirmation Classes in Wilden

Wednesday February 10th at 7.00 p.m. at The Rock Tavern in Wilden

I would like to invite you to join me in the Function Room at The Rock Tavern on Wilden Lane,  Wilden near Stourport to think about Confirmation Classes that will begin in January 2016 looking toward a Service of Confirmation to be conducted by Bishop Michael Hooper at All Saints Wilden on Easter Sunday, March 27th 2016.

Many thanks to Matt and Maggie Flight the managers of the Rock Tavern for offering their Function Room free of charge.

My hope is that two groups of people will be drawn to be a part of this. First and most obviously those who want to be confirmed, to make their own public commitment of faith and already a small group of people have expressed an interest in this. The second group I have in mind is those who have been confirmed already but who would like to be part of an adult group doing grown up thinking about their own lives in the light of Christian faith.

If you would like to know more and you live near Wilden please come along on December 1st  (Post Code DY13 9LR) and or email me at mail@stephenwinter.net or phone on 07773 760899
